What is Tai Chi (Ji):

Tai Chi can be described as a martial art that was originally designed for self defense, and later for its health preserving benefits through what is sometimes referred to as meditation in motion movements. The practice of these movements helps the person to harmonize the mind, body, and spirit by balancing the yin and yang qualities (positive and negative attributes) within themselves. In the beginning, the student learns relaxed slow precise movements that blend body coordination with slow rhythmic breathing.  At this point, the student develops the core foundation and basics to Tai Chi (the yin aspect of practice). Once the yin part of practice has been developed, the student proceeds to advanced levels consisting of fast paced focused movements. These quick and powerful movements allow the student to project their energy in a very concentrated and explosive manner (the yang aspect of practice). The goal of the art is to learn how to live and respond in harmony to ones self, other people, and the surrounding environment.

What is Qi Gong:

Qi Gong consists of sedentary meditation, plus slow movement exercises that are combined with special breathing techniques and visualizations to elicit a calm mind and to enhance ones health. The student of this art strives to integrate the lower, middle, and upper aspects of the body into one harmonious system.  This integrative process leads to enhancing ones internal and external health, creating a deeper mind and body connection, and developing a better understanding of ones self.  Over time the benefits of this art can be felt and experienced, but only through consistent and regular practice.
